About Us

JMC is a growing gentle charismatic Methodist church about a 20-minute walk from town, located by West Jesmond Metro Station. We embody the historic Methodist emphasis on biblical faith and social justice, held together in dynamic discipleship nurtured by a worshipping community that seeks to share the grace of God with all.

Our services are led by members of our congregation and worship band. While our worship style is informal, we are serious about worshipping God, listening to the spirit and value inspiring preaching and teaching. Alongside this our small groups, student groups, bible studies, mission events, anti-racism reading groups, and more, help and challenge us in following Jesus, responding to the Spirit and seeking welfare for the city of Newcastle. We want to be engaged in our community, knowing that God’s heart is for the outsider, and the lost. We love to provide hospitality and lunches throughout the year, lasting friendships and support, plus opportunities to grow in faith, use your gifts and serve the community.

We are currently hosting our services on our Facebook Page and we catch up over coffee and a chat on Zoom afterwards. Our midweek groups are also meeting up online on zoom, occasionally meeting social distanced.

Jesmond Methodist Church is part of the Newcastle Central and East Circuit. We are a church focused on growing as a family of members and stepping out into our community to share God’s love and message to the people of Jesmond, and helping the students and young-professionals living there to develop a relationship with God through our ministry to them.

Our Minister is Rev Alison Wilkinson. She is also the Minister at Sheildfield Arts Works @ The Holy Biscuit.  Before becoming a Methodist minister, Alison was an RE teacher, trained teachers and worked for the Methodist Church as a Training and Development Officer. She has served in Durham and Hartlepool, before joining our Circuit in 2016. Alison has been involved in teaching and training Christian leaders. She is passionate about nurturing discipleship, encouraging everyone to use their gifts and for the Church to demonstrate the love of God to all, in a relevant way.  She enjoys watching movies, box sets, baking, good food, and is a convert to NUFC.

We employ Adam, he works full time for the Church across two roles mainly as Student and Young Adult Worker and more recently as Lay Pastor. He oversees the Churches work for Students and Young Adults, working with a team to run and look after discipleship and mission to Students and Young Adults. His Lay Pastor role sees him oversee and work with Alison on developing the Churches wider mission and day to day running of the Church. Before coming to JMC in September 2017, Adam studied Divinity at the University of Aberdeen and set up, worked for and ran the Newcastle Methodist District Youth Event, Charged Youth. He is passionate about Jesus, Young Person Discipleship and all things Disney.

Alison and Adam are supported at Jesmond by a Leadership Team made up of eight stewards; Margaret, Jan, Sally, Ken, Rob, Kate, Calvin and Safwatt.

We have a weekly service at 10.45am every Sunday which is led either by our own Minister or by another preacher from within the circuit.
