St George's Terrace, Jesmond, Newcastle, NE2 2DL
JMC provided the venue for this exciting community project to raise funds for the Oxfam EAST AFRICA APPEAL. We invited passersby - the people of Jesmond, to come and ‘purchase’ (by donation) locally grown fruit and veg for a worthy cause!
100% of money raised was to go to the appeal.
With last minute donations for left over produce, the final figure is £1,163.98
Total raised by 17 September: £1,127.46!!!
Thanks to the various allotment holders for their amazing produce and the folk that passed our stalls and donated money!
On Saturday 17 September 2011 we held an Information Day from 11am-1pm with Oxfam. We heard about Oxfam's new global campaign 'GROW - to help fix the broken system and make sure everyone always has enough to eat'!!There was a 12 minute video and soon after 12noon, Katie Liddle (Manager, Oxfam Books & Music, Jesmond) gave a short talk. We had crisps and other nibbles and soft drinks (very kindly donated by Tesco on Acorn Road). At about 12.45, we had a formal presentation of our cheque to Oxfam, followed by a lovely cake to celebrate our Harvest project and to thank allotment holders for their generous donations of produce. It was a nice way to end the project!
The last day of our Harvest Project on 17 September 2011. A day of thanksgiving and celebration. Well done to everyone.
