St George's Terrace, Jesmond, Newcastle, NE2 2DL
Would you like to join us on a Winter Pilgrimage? We believe that the Lord has laid on our hearts the idea of pilgrimage for 40 days beginning on January 8th.
Each day, the pilgrim will recall some words from the prayer of Richard of Chichester and develop the prayer as the Holy Spirit leads (see guidance below). During the pilgrim journey, there is also a call to undertake two fasts. The fast is a means of intentionally drawing near to God by self- discipline, denial of privilege, to allow God to take His place as King in our lives. We may choose to give up or the pilgrim may be led to give to – presence, silence, listening, charitable giving and sacrificial works.
Any one can participate for all or a part of the journey. The pilgrim does not have to walk the Jesmond streets but it may become a part of the pilgrim journey. You can be an armchair pilgrim if you wish. Pilgrims will be supported by two shepherds who will commit to pray for the pilgrims and be a help to the process.
Please, prayerfully consider being a pilgrim - winter is a very special and necessary season, much growth and strengthening of root occurs underground in the dark, let’s allow this time for God to strengthen us for further growth.
The Pilgrimage will end with a celebration meal and a time of sharing in the middle of February.
The prayer, to learn and recall:
Most Merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother,
May we know you more clearly,
Love you more dearly and
Follow you more nearly
Day by day
Amen
Richard of Chichester
Ask the Lord what He wants me to know today?
What is He doing, who is He calling?
In my environment – in my Bible reading- in my family and friendships? Wherever and whoever?
How to Love with all my heart, mind and strength.
How to love with all that makes me, ME.
Consider what God might want me to receive today, might I share what I have received with another?
What do I need to do to stay near to Jesus?
Can I see where He is leading ?
Am I following Him?
What does it mean or look like for me to follow in His footsteps?
