Shieldfield Art Works

Shieldfield Art Works (or ‘SAW’) is one of our partners in the Newcastle Central and East Methodist Circuit. It's an arts organisation based in Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne. SAW operates on the intersection of contemporary art, theological reflection and community activism. As both an arts space and a project of the Methodist Church, we are committed to understanding how these three spheres can speak, interact and learn from each other. SAW believes art and creativity are integral parts of human life, and with art’s unique ability to articulate, question and enquire, we can enact positive change in our communities and the world.

More info about SAW can be located on their website:

SAW and JMC are partners in the Newcastle Central and East Circuit. Our Minister Alison has pastoral oversight of both JMC and the SAW project. In September 2023, our Lay Pastor started working a day a week in Shieldfield alongside SAW discerning whether a New Place for New People (NPNP) could be something that helps people encounter God. In September 2024, Adam will work as Lay Pastor across JMC, SAW and the NPNP in the new Jesmond/Shieldfield Area hoping to further develop links between all 3.
